Entries are about to open for the annual St Columba's Hospice Fun Run, this year for the first time sponsored by Foresters. The run takes place on Sunday 21st September and starts with a 1k run for under-13's. Following that is the main fun run, where participants can walk, jog or run round the route. Starting and finishing in the scenic Victoria Park in Edinburgh the course is 2 laps taking in the tranquil cycle and footpaths in the area surrounding the park. Participants can choose to do 1 lap or 2 laps depending on their levels of fitness - the emphasis is very much on fun and fundraising - not about who is the fastest across the finish line!
Last year around £8,000 was raised toward the valuable work of the hospice and this year it is hoped that even more will be raised by the 200 or so people taking part.
Mairi Rosko, Fundraising Manager at St Columba’s, said “The Fun Run is a great way for families to spend quality time together while supporting St. Columba’s Hospice. Every step taken will contribute to making every minute count for our patients, their families, friends and loved ones. The support of the local community is essential to St. Columba’s, and we thank Foresters for making this fun run possible, and hope that people of all ages will get their running or walking shoes on and making a real difference with their time and effort.”
Event organiser, Alistair Currie said, "The Fun Run is a great community day, something that can get all the family involved in a fun activity that benefits everyone, those taking part are getting active, which is good for their health, and the funds they raise help to provide much needed care and support for the patients of the hospice and their loved ones."
