There are literally hundreds of runs around Scotland and beyond that you can choose from.

The St Columba's Hospice Team take part in a number of the bigger runs around the country, including:

January

The Great Winter Run - 5k

This is the first mass run of the year, the 2009 event takes place on Saturday 10th January. The course takes in the majestic surroundings of Holyrood Park, Arthur's Seat, the Scottish Parliament Building, Dynamic Earth and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

March

The Edinburgh Half Marathon

The picturesque Firth of Forth coastline forms the backdrop to this scenic Half Marathon, Relay and Family Fun Run.

Details of the 2009 event will appear in the calendar section when available.

April

The Flora London Marathon

This is the daddy of all running events in the UK, possibly the world. An amazing £46.5 million was raised for charity from the event in 2007. If you are succesful in getting a place through the ballot why not choose to run and raise funds for St Columba's Hospice over the classic 26.2 mile distance.

The 2009 event takes place on Sunday 26th April.

May

BUPA Great Edinburgh Run 10k

Scotland's premier 10km road running event the BUPA Great Edinburgh Run is expected to welcome over 10,000 runners of all abilities to Edinburgh on Sunday 3rd May 2009.

The city centre course takes in some of Edinburgh's most stunning scenary and famous landmarks including Edinburgh Castle, The Scott Monument, The Royal Mile, Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament Building. In a change to previous years the course will take participants down the Mound giving runners ample time to admire the fantastic views of Edinburgh's historic New Town, the Firth of Forth and beyond to The Kingdom of Fife.

The Albert Bartlett Edinburgh Marathon

The Albert Bartlett Edinburgh Marathon is the second largest full marathon in the UK. It is also one of the most beautiful, offering runners the ultimate personal challenge with a spectacularly scenic route, taking runners past many of Edinburgh’s famous landmarks and tourist attractions.

If you don't want to run the full 26.2 miles, you can get a team of four people together to take part in the Chevrolet Hairy Haggis Team Relay event. Each member of the team will run around a quarter of the marathon course.

The 2009 relay is open to charity runners only so it will be even more memorable for those taking part. Each team member shouldraise a minimum amount of sponsorship for St Columba's Hospice.

Entries for the 2009 Albert Bartlett Edinburgh Marathon will open in September 2008.

Charity Assured Places
If you are not successful in getting a place yourself, we have a number of Charity Assured Places for the 2009 Albert Bartlett Edinburgh Marathon. To run on one of these you must pledge to raise a minimum donation amount in sponsorship and make an initial donation to secure your place. Four person relay teams can also be allocated one Charity Assured Place.

Resolution Asset Management Women's 10k - Glasgow - Date to be announced

The biggest single running event in Scotland - around 14,000 women take on this annual challenge in Glasgow. Starting and finishing around the scenic Bellahouston Park the route takes in the roads and paths around some of the most beautiful parks in Scotland, including the famous Pollock Park, home of the world renowned Burrell Collection.

Entry details will appear here when available. The event is usually held in mid-May.

June

The Co-operative jogscotland 5k

Part of a series of 5ks held around Scotland during June and July the Edinburgh event on Wednesday 25th June is truly unique in that it is the once a year opportunity for people to run around the beautiful Royal Botanic Garden in Edinurgh without any fear of being chased out the gates (except by other runners that is!).

The event motto is 'Make 2008 the year to walk, jog or run a 5k' - and the event lives up to its promise of being suitable for anyone from first timer to seasoned runner.

September

The freshnlo Great Scottish Run

Whether you choose to take part in the 10k or the half marathon you will pass some of the city's most famous attractions, and cross the Kingston Bridge over the River Clyde, before finishing on Glasgow Green.
